North End

The North End is a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It has the distinction of being the city’s oldest residential community, where people have continuously inhabited since it was settled in the 1630s. Though small, only 0.36 square miles (0.93 km2), the neighborhood has nearly one hundred establishments and a variety of tourist attractions. It is known for its Italian American population and fine Italian restaurants. The district is a pending Boston Landmark.

Commercial Street and Atlantic Avenue ring the community, while Hanover Street is the main north-south thoroughfare through the community. Washington Street runs along the community’s western edge. The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway occupies the space of the former aboveground Central Artery, while the North End Parks and the Paul Revere Mall (The Prado) are other major public spaces within the North End.

The North End is well known for its narrow streets and many restaurants and many do not take reservations. It is also home to Modern, and Mike Pastries.

In the summertime, you can often find there is a festival every single week in honor of a patron saint on top of the many tourists that visit the North End this small neighborhood can get very crowded easily. When coming to the North End your meant to stroll the neighborhood.

Homes in the neighborhood are some of the oldest in Boston and you will often find many of them are steep walk-ups and small layouts like Beacon Hill. You can find Post-Medieval and Federal Style homes along with many other styles that you find in other parts of Boston.
