Enjoying New England In The Fall

Fall in New England

It’s Fall in New England. New England offers many great activities for people to enjoy. New England is much more than apple and pumpkin picking while enjoying apple cider on a crisp day. Here are some great things to check out in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Massachusetts

Head of the Charles: Head of the Charles Regatta is the world’s largest two-day rowing event. Eleven thousand athletes around the world compete in the two-day event. The event occurs along the Charles River, mainly along the Charles River.

Salem, Massachusetts– The Birthplace of the

Salem Witch Trials. However, Salem offers more than just witches; it’s also the Halloween capital and home to the House of Seven Gables. This charming city provides a wide array of captivating attractions for visitors. They can delve into Salem’s maritime history at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site and savor delicious seafood along the bustling waterfront. Art and culture enthusiasts will find the Peabody Essex Museum a must-visit with its extensive collection of art and artifacts. Beyond its spooky reputation, Salem boasts a rich tapestry of attractions and history.

For architecture and history enthusiasts, Salem offers year-round attractions. Additionally, it’s home to two breweries, Notch Brewery and East Regiment Beer Company, both serving a diverse range of craft beers. These establishments provide a welcoming atmosphere, making them ideal for socializing with friends or fellow beer enthusiasts. Additionally, they offer excellent dining options for all budgets. Furthermore, the culinary scene in Salem caters to a wide range of tastes and preferences. I favor The Landing restaurant; Salem offers numerous other great dining choices. I’ve visited during the Fall, and it has consistently exceeded my expectations. If you’re traveling from Boston, the commuter rail provides a leisurely ride, and on weekends, you can secure a 10-dollar commuter rail pass that’s valid anywhere along the line.

When we think of fall, we often do not associate it with Cape Cod; nevertheless, Cape Cod and Provincetown are excellent destinations to visit during the Fall season.  Tourists are not there in droves. Hotel rates are cheaper, and a dinner reservation at a local restaurant might be more accessible. Wellfleet Oysters are considered the best and the best time of year to experience Oysters starting in October. WellfleetOysterFest is a great time to sample products from local vendors.

Food and Fitness in Massachusetts

Cape Cod Brewfest– The Annual event takes place at the end of September, and over 60 breweries offer 150 styles of Beer.

Nantucket is another place that is less crowded during the fall season. Furthermore, the island’s autumn charm is truly captivating. If you are up for it, you can hunt for your scallops during October. Nantucket’s quieter streets and pristine beaches make it ideal for a peaceful fall getaway.

Hiking is not just for New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. There are plenty of scenic places to hike in Massachusetts.

Boston takes their beer seriously, and the state of Massachusetts’s beer-making is also a big deal. The craft beer scene in Massachusetts is thriving, with a diverse array of breweries across the state. There are over 130 breweries throughout the state. The first brewery in the state was in 1637. It’s no longer in operation. Yes, the state is home to Samual Adams, Cisco Brewery, Wachusett Brewery, and Harpoon. However, numerous breweries offer various types of beer.

Additionally, you’ll find a wide range of craft beer options to explore across the state. Some of them provide food and tours of their brewery, so if you’re coming to the area for a special occasion. Maybe Beer isn’t your thing, and you are more of a Wine drinker.

You can find wines like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and wine blends. Some offer food or do tastings with the pairing of foods. Wineries can be found throughout the state.

The Omni Mount Washington is home to Brettonwoods Ski Resort, and many skiers and snowboarders rave about it. However, it is also home to an 18-hole golf course, making it a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails, Mountain Biking trails, fly fishing, a 25,000 square foot spa. New Hampshire Breweries

New Hampshire has over 90 Breweries in seven regions of New Hampshire. Here is the complete list of breweries. Surprisingly, the Henniker Brewing Company was not operating when I attended New England College. However, seeing it on the list now is excellent, reflecting the growth and development of the local brewery scene.

New Hampshire Wineries

When you think of New Hampshire, you might not think of wine. However, New Hampshire has over 30 wineries, and they are located in various areas of the state.

  • Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region
  • Great North Woods
  • Lakes Region
  • Merrimack Valley
  • Monadnock Valley
  • Seacoast
  • White Mountains

Many wineries offer group events, which could be perfect if you have a family reunion, girls’ weekend, or Bachelor/Bachelorette party. Some wineries are strictly wine-oriented, while others serve food alongside wine offerings. New Hampshire became a place for wineries in 1994 and only had two, and it just keeps growing.

Pumpkin Festival in Keene, New Hampshire: This tradition took a break, yet it has returned to Keene, New Hampshire, with renewed enthusiasm. The Pumpkin Festival started in 1991, and this year, the festival will take place Oct 21st, 2023. On Oct 19th, 2013, the festival made the Guinness Book of Records with 30,581 pumpkins lit at one time.

Other states in New England, like Maine, Vermont, and Connecticut, have significant events or attractions to check out. If you do nothing in Maine, Vermont, and Connecticut, the Fall foliage will not disappoint. These states, like Massachusetts and New Hampshire, offer superb dining, breweries, wineries, apple picking, and historical places. In most areas in New England, it is a quick car ride or jump on Amtrak or commuter rail. Fall is a great time to explore New England.
