How to settle in quickly after a move

June 1, 2025 by Page Innis Leave a Comment

To settle into your new home quickly after a move, follow these proactive steps:

1) Sort your belongings room by room into categories: Toss, Donate, Sell, and Keep.
2) Prepare items you won’t use, room by room.
3) Clearly label boxes with their designated room and contents.
4) Schedule a cleaning service for your old and new residences.
5) Manage utility services by transferring or terminating as needed; consider applying for a local parking permit.
6) Secure moving permits for your current and new locations, which can be done by hiring professionals or utilizing moving companies.
7) Firstly, note and address any repairs required in your current place, such as patching walls and repainting. Additionally, consider fixing any plumbing or electrical issues you may encounter during your inspection
8) To start, identify essential items for the week of the move and the day before and label them accordingly. Furthermore, prioritize packing these items in easily accessible boxes or bag
9) Label furniture and their intended locations.
10) Mark items designated for storage appropriately.
11) Create a list of bills to update with your new address.
12) Review and update your homeowner or renter insurance policy.
13) Plan meals for the week of the move, including the moving day and afterward.
14) Prepare a cooler with water and ready-to-eat food for the day of the move.
15) Organize food items, including pet supplies, with clear labeling and have pet carriers or leashes readily accessible.
16) Minimize stress when moving with pets or children by planning ahead.
17) Keep necessary items for the moving day in your car if possible.
18) Prioritize safety by having someone guard your belongings during the move-in process, with one person at the door and another unpacking inside.
19) Unpack items systematically, one room at a time.
20) Consider hiring assistance for tasks such as restocking the fridge, organizing cabinets, or helping unpacking.

The more organized you are, the smoother and less stressful your move will be. Need help planning your move or looking for the perfect home to call home? I promise to take care of you more than finding that perfect home. Contact me, and let’s talk.
