Quiet Luxury Design Trends

January 22, 2024 by Page Innis Leave a Comment

One of the biggest trends in 2024 in Home Decore is Quiet Luxury. What is quiet Luxury? Quiet Luxury is understated elegance and refined consumption. They emphasize exclusivity and discerning taste without overt displays of wealth. Other terms to describe the same concept include stealth wealth, old money aesthetic, or silent Luxury. Here are some looks that are great examples of quiet Luxury.

When designing a room with quiet luxury, think of neutral tones. Streamlined silhouettes, sumptuous fabrics, warm woods, pared-back decor, and anything that evokes a relaxed, intentional way of living and decorating. The decorating philosophy is less is more. The decor should be subtle but classic and timeless.

What is the Difference between Old Money and Quiet Luxury?

Quiet Luxury is sometimes confused with old money. Old Money is often a more refined look and quiet luxury is a more approachable look. Quiet luxury is often more minimal and contemporary style.

How to bring the look of Quiet Luxury in your home

Quiet luxury can be done on any size budget, and regardless of the style of your home or size, it again is a timeless look, so the pieces you purchase should be adaptable over time. Start with a neutral color palette, add in a mix of classic and on-trend pieces, then layer in some lovely textures through rugs, curtains, throw pillows, and blankets in sumptuous fabrics like velvet, cashmere, wool, and linen—colors like muted greens, rich caramels, creamy whites, and washed-out blacks. There should be very few patterns in the decore.  You will find materials in quiet luxury aesthetic stonework, limestone flooring, brass fixtures, weathered wood flooring, stucco, and marble.  Since quiet luxury is understated, artwork, photos, and mementos should be in the space to warm up the space and make it feel warm vs. sterile.

Other touches that bring the look of Quiet Luxury

  • Soothing neutral color palette
  • Wool and sisal rugs
  • Soft cotton or fine linen upholstery, slipcovers, and bedding.
  • Curtains that are Linen, Velvet or Cotton
  • Bring in plenty of Candlelight and soft ambient lighting
  • Black and White Photography in silver frames or black frames
  • Stack up Your Favorite books on bookshelves, Side tables, Consoles, and Coffee tables
  • Table Clothes and Cotton napkins
  • Use of Kitchen items like cutting boards, marble pastry boards, and wood utilities

Quiet luxury Looks in your Kitchen

Again, going with the quiet luxury kitchen, you would stick to cool neutral tones that offer a warm but calm feel. Brass Light fixtures with elements sprinkled throughout the kitchen, like kitchen hardware on cabinets, chairs, and even lighting inside cabinets that shine a warm tone.  You might also bring in marble or quartz countertops that are white or cream, or even a green color, but refrain from using black or a loud color or busy pattern.

Natural Wood elements and Pendant lighting, whites and whites, are light black. The black in the room is more to be used as an ascent that is not overly obvious. Nickle hardware and a center island that is more of a light brown or dark cream color to add warmth to the room. Last, notice how many windows allow natural light to drip in.

Entryway Luxury Looks

Your Entryway in a home is the first impression of the look and feel of your home. Like every other space, you want it to express warmth and a sense of relaxation while showing your style simultaneously. Mix up shapes and textures in the space. Offer earth tones, metals, and soft textiles. Make sure the entry stays with a clean look and feel. You want it to feel lived in but not cluttered. It should never be a space that feels sterile.

Here is another example of how to make an entryway feel warm and leave a great first impression, showcase your style, and stay in line with quiet luxury—black and White Frames in various sizes.  A Credenza can warm up a space and provide additional storage in the home.

Another example of bathroom ideas is where a homeowner can design a bathroom that offers calm, tranquility, and a timeless, updated feel.  If you notice the use of Brass fixtures, nickel, and small amounts of gold create a timeless yet elegant look and feel subtly. You might be asking yourself, How do you bring the look and feel of quiet luxury to your outdoor living?

Quiet luxury is not a look just reserved for indoors; it can also be brought to outdoor living.

Many of the same elements you saw in examples of indoor living could be applied if you are trying to apply quiet luxury to your outdoor space—neutral tones with creams, off-whites, and white with nickel elements and brass. Natural materials like wood are on the lighter side. You might have a firepit you want to bring into the look, or you happen to have an outdoor fireplace. You were adding greenery around the space.

Takeaways with a quiet luxury look.

  • The quiet Luxury look can be done on any budget.
  • Quiet Luxury can be accomplished regardless of whether you own or rent.
  • the trend is more about quality materials and finishes
  • You can find items in designer stores, more affordable shopping stores, and even at your local thrift store or local tag sale.
  • Try to look at your current home and items in it and see what you can repropose before you go out and buy new pieces. You want to consider how you want the item to feel in your home and how you feel when you look at it.
  • The Look or trend is about creating a beautiful life.
