Renter Friendly Ways to update a Bathroom

September 12, 2023 by Page Innis Leave a Comment

Sept 1st has come and gone. Hopefully, the months of planning have paid off. With your items settled into their new spots in your new home and the once-full moving boxes gone, it’s important to remember to clear any changes with your landlord before proceeding with your bathroom revamp. Once you’ve obtained approval, you can start the makeover.. You can take down all mentioned modifications as quickly as you need for your next move.

Revamp Flooring and Walls

Your bathroom floors have seen better days. Because the linoleum is dated, you aspire to give it a more modern look. Peel-and-stick tile might be the perfect solution if the floor is level. You can cut it to size with a razor in various styles. Prices often start at $1 a foot.

Updating the walls is another way to revamp your bathroom and give it a fresh look. For a substantial change, you can paint the bathroom, or for a less permanent option with various styles, consider peel-and-stick wallpaper. Remember that peel-and-stick wallpaper can be quickly applied and removed without causing any damage. However, humidity can make it peel, so it’s more suitable for powder bathrooms.

Mirror and Backsplash

You’ve received a few ideas and shifted your focus to your bathroom mirror. The Bathroom mirror is often the focal point of the bathroom, so make it a good one. If the existing mirror is removable, consider swapping it out for one that makes more of a statement. If not, you can build a wood frame with some DIY skills. Or keep it simple and very budget-friendly by framing it with accent tape or dimmable vanity mirror lights.

Never underestimate the impact of a revamped backsplash on a small room like a bathroom. Like bathroom tile update with peel-and-stick 3-D tile, one can do the same thing with freshening up a backsplash. It will have the look and feel of tile without the mess.

Power of Hardware

Never underestimate the importance of updating hardware in any space. Updating bathroom hardware transforms the look and feel, with the added benefit of easy reversion to the existing hardware when you leave. Just measure the size of the handles and get new ones to fit. With knobs, it’s even simpler. You can find classic handles and knobs at major home improvement stores or explore eclectic options from retailers like Anthropologie, Home Depot, and Amazon without breaking the bank.

Countertops, you can freshen up the look with contact paper. I had a client who used contact paper, and it looked like marble but was contact paper. You can achieve the look of quartz or wood-tone tile with a commitment as long or short as you prefer. You can achieve the look you’re going for in just a few hours, and that’s the best part.

This kitchen counter has contact paper that looks like marble. A renter could do the same idea in a bathroom if they wanted

The most effortless Change where permission is not required.

When you shower, you want your bathroom to feel spa-like, and changing the shower head can make a difference.. It can change the look and feel of a daily shower. Most landlords put the basic showerhead where the water trickles down, and water pressure is less desirable. Installing a new showerhead requires minimal technical skills, and it’s the most common upgrade I see tenants make. Most tenants don’t even ask their landlord if they can swap out the shower head.

Upgrading your shower curtain and adding matching artwork, towels, and bathmat to your fresh bathroom makeover can tie the look together, enhancing your enjoyment of the space and potentially helping your landlord rent it out quickly when ready to move. Your landlord might thank you later for these improvements.
